In Brian O'Neill I have lost a friend, musical hero and mentor. -Mark

Brian O'Neill: 1955-2005

It is with the greatest sadness and loss for words that we mourn the sudden passing of our friend, brother and musical mentor, Brian O'Neill.

Trombonist, composer, arranger, vocalist, pianist Brian O'Neill passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon after suffering an apparent heart attack while on a solo piano gig in New Orleans, LA. He was a charter member of the New Orleans based trombone troupe since their first show in 1998. O'Neill was noted for his work with Wayne Cochran and the CC Riders in the 1970's as well as being a mainstay of popular New Orleans R&B vocalist Luther Kent's band "Trick Bag" for the past 25 years. As a freelance trombonist O'Neill was one of the most frequently called trombonists in New Orleans over the past 25 years. In Bonerama O'Neill penned the most recent "Bone Up" from the LIVE From New York CD and also appeared in countless tours and sit ins with the Bonerama horns including appearances with Gov't Mule and the Radiators.

Relatives, family and friends are invited to the memorial service on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2:00pm, visitation at 1pm at the Bultman Funeral Home 3338 St. Charles Ave. New Orleans, LA. Information: (504) 895-7766.

We are planning a musical tribute for Brian O'Neill sometime in January. Details to follow soon.

Updates will be posted at www.bonerama.net

thanks for all your concern. we are safe, here with my family in little rock arkansas. we had a show here with bonerama saturday night and extended our stay when we saw the situation approaching.
it is impossible to convey my feelings about what is going on in new orleans, there are so many levels to the tragedy, we cannot yet wrap our minds around what is really going on.
many of us are expecting to find our homes destroyed but so far have no specific accounts of property damage. we can't even make a plan yet as to what to do, but we will all likely have to live somewhere else for the next few months as the infrastructure in new orleans is destroyed. it's really freaking me out that one of the biggest natural disasters in american history is intersecting with our lives and i don't think i've got a good grip on that yet either, it's all pretty heavy.
the 17th st canal levee breech occurred a few blocks away from my old house in new orleans. that's blowing my mind too as i used to look across the street at that levee saying, "naw it could never come over, but if it did..."
thanks again for all your thoughts,
-Mark Mullins
ps while there is obviously no show tonight at twiropa, we are planning on making ALL our out of town shows with Bonerama.

Do not adjust your set. It is merely an attempt at an update. Please stop laughing.
I just woke up from Jazz Fest, been resting up for next year. Thanks for your patience. Hello..?
Actually plowing through quite a nice summer. In New Orleans just enough, i mean who wants to stay here in this heat? Not me, not for too long. We've had a great time on the road with Bonerama in Colorado (our fourth trip there in a year!), some really fun shows with Russell Batiste out there, oxygen tanks, gondolas and all! Most recently a nice time in Asheville NC and south Florida at the Bamboo Room for a couple of really fun shows last week. Getting ready for Little Rock and St. Louis later this month and back to New York and finally west coast again all in September. While at home this week doing some really special recording with Paul Sanchez (Cowboy Mouth) for an upcoming solo CD of his that will undoubtedly be his most unique yet. Honored to be a part of this. (until my part hits the cutting room floor like EVERY project i am a part of) ..is it my hair..?

in the middle of it all, 12 shows behind me, 11 more in front of me before monday morning. some highlights of last weekend have to include the stanton set at preservation hall friday with skerik and robert walter, the bonerama maple leaf set minutes earlier, the george porter jr runnin pardners reunion (awesome!), the trombone summit at mo fest, getting to play next to jimmy robinson in leigh harris' wonderful band in the jazz tent sunday, and of course playing on dave bartholemew's set on acura saturday afternoon trading licks with craig klein. probably the biggest highlight was being off later that afternoon and getting right in the thick of the crowd to witness the original Meters play together, something i will never forget.

It's Jazz Fest time again, an exceptionally busy one this year with wonderful opportunities to play with some amazing players and bands (in addition to Bonerama!) like George Porter Jr., Zigaboo Modeleste, The Radiators, Dave Bartholemew, Stanton Moore, Skerik, Robert Walter, Ivan Neville, Better Than Ezra, Anders Osborne, John Gros and more...what a great time of year in New Orleans. Please visit the tour dates page to see my schedule.
HAPPY FEST EVERYBODY!

Hello all..-In Vegas with Harry for the past few days... Just lost $20 in this crazy poker game that lets you bet on 100 hands at the same time…I guess averages is what made this town…
Now Johnny Cash, George Jones and Neil Young will lull me to sleep as we prepare for an unusual day drive to the gig tomorrow in Bakersfield California. (we usually travel at night like osama..)
These are the last days with Harry for a while as we prepare to make the most out of 2005 for Bonerama…
See you in Baltimore and New York (and New Orleans too!) in March,
-Mark

Happy groundhog day weather fans. Looking forward to a busy jazz fest, i can tell already it's gonna be one of my craziest ever. -we're not even through our early mardi gras yet! this time of year in new orleans is always so crazy. it seems like when Jan 1 hits all we can think about is mardi gras and jazz fest.
We are working on some great shows this year for jazz fest, some with Bonerama and others with other good friends, i can't wait. as soon as things are confirmed they'll be posted here. it's an exciting time for Bonerama, lots of cool things happening.
i went to five parades sunday and it was awesome.
happy mardi gras,

January 10, 2005
Hey there. Happy New Year! Well, we made it to and from Colorado... after our outbound flights were cancelled in Houston we rented cars and drove 1300 miles straight to Telluride to make our shows. Had a nice New Years eve in the Vail area...
why is it so hard to get back on the horse after the holidays?
This should make it easier...will be at Tipitina's Friday playing with Ivan Neville's band and Saturday with Zigaboo Modeliste and the 501 Krewe. Gearing up for Mardi Gras...Bonerama will be at the Orpheuscapade on Feb. 7...come find me and say hi...

Hi ya. Thanks to all who made it out to the CD release party at Tips. It was awesome. As i was looking around the stage, 7 trombones including Big Sam, Rick Trolsen, Andy Pizzo, plus Anders Osborne wailing on guitar and vocals, plus George Porter Jr., Kirk Joseph AND Matt Perrine for a triple dose of low end.
it was just a great time.
We're heading out to Boston later this week (Bonerama).. very excited about Boston for some reason.
ok then, ya'll take care." - Mark

Hi there, thanks for stopping by my new site. Hope you enjoy it. Still working out a few bugs but it’s basically up and running. Thanks to Dave Stocker for all his hard work.

Heading out to Phili tomorrow to hook up with one of my favorite bands, The Radiators.
I am a big fan of most of the bands I get to play with and being onstage with the Rads is no different, always exciting and you never know what they’re going to throw at you. Looking around the stage, the history up there is the ultimate inspiration.

Maybe I’ll see you there,
-Mark
